Lagoon Hill is named after an old Riddiford Sheep and Cattle Station in the hills outside of Martinborough, Wairarapa. The Riddiford family owned large tracts of land in the lower North Island from 1850 and broke in the bush country for suitable grazing for farm sheep and cattle. In recent years the Martinborough region has gained notoriety for their wines including Pinot Noir and Sauvignon Blanc.

The Lagoon Hill range includes both of these varietals from Martinborough with the label lettering designed to reflect the undulating terrain that is so distinctive of the southern Wairarapa region.
